Mom’s Gooey Cinnamon Rolls

Mom used to make cinnamon rolls around the holidays,  and we kids would look forward to these rare treats. Unlike cinnamon rolls that most people are familiar with, mom never frosted them. Instead she baked them in a brown sugar-heavy cream “goo” that would soak in and make those rolls irresistible.

To save time, she would use a box of Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix, which I also recommend and use for this recipe.

Gooey and downright delicious! I wouldn't blame you if you licked the pan clean after eating a whole batch of these rolls in one sitting. You can adjust the amount of cinnamon up or down to suit your taste.

"Goo"
Servings: Rolls
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Prepare the hot roll mix according to the package directions.
  3. While the dough is resting, In a medium sauce pan, combine brown sugar and heavy whipping cream over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved to create "goo." Pour "goo" into bottom of a 9x13 baking dish
  4. Roll out dough into a rough 14-inch circle. Brush all over with melted butter, then sprinkle granulated sugar and cinnamon evenly all over (feel free to add more cinnamon per your taste).
  5. Start on on side and roll up dough into one long roll. Cut into 12 smaller rolls. Set rolls cut side down into "goo" then cover with a kitchen towel and put in a warm place until rolls double in size (approx. 20 minutes)
  6. Remove towel, and place rolls into oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  7. When finished, turn baking dish over on top of a cookie sheet or sheet of tinfoil to release the rolls. Enjoy (and be sure to save some for everybody else)!
