On today’s episode I welcome Josephine Caminos Oría, author and founder of La Dorita Cooks, to talk about her new book “Sobremesa: A Memoir of Food and Love in Thirteen Courses.” Josephine talks about her Argentine-American upbringing, sharing stories around the family table, passing recipes through the generations (culinary time travel), and some of her favorite Argentine recipes.

In addition to being an author, Josephine is also an entrepreneur. She founded La Dorita Cooks, manufactures and sells small-batch Dulce de Leche, and runs a start-up kitchen incubator for aspiring food entrepreneurs.

We touched on the concept of “magical realism” in the conversation. If you are interested in other works in this genre, there are some classics you need to get ahold of. We mentioned “Like Water For Chocolate.” Josephine’s favorite author is Isabelle Allende. Gabriel García Marquez is another master of the genre. One of my favorite movies (and book trilogy, by author John Nichols) is the Milagro Beanfield War.
