On today’s episode, award winning chef, writer, television personality Andrew Zimmern stops by to talk about every home cook’s love/hate relationship with their freezers. While for some the freezer represents the potential for a great meal, for many it is a source of mystery, wasted food, and even anxiety. Andrew brings some advice for home cooks looking to make the most of their freezers.
Mentioned in this Episode
Most of us probably know Andrew best from his long running Travel Channel series, Bizarre Foods. He has an Emmy win (for The Zimmern List) and James Beard awards for his work in food television. He’s also a writer and educator. His new television series, Family Dinner, is a great peek into the foodways of families from all walks of life.
Andrew is working with Hillshire Farm on an initiative to help home cooks make the most out of their freezers. Check out their website for recipes and tips for the freezer. For my money, Andrew’s Tailgate-Ready Smoked Sausage Soup looks delicious!
Here’s Andrew walking through his fried rice recipe:
Plastic freezer bags are a huge lifesaver when it comes to freezing foods (even liquids). If you like that idea, but don’t want to send a ton of bags to the landfill, check out reusable silicone freezer bags. Freezer-safe quart containers are a good investment as well (hey just so you know, those are affiliate links).
