Preservation Hall – We had a fantastic time taking in a show from some of the city’s top musicians. Tickets in advance or at the door, and bring a little cash, because they take requests for traditional jazz favorites.
Emeril’s NOLA – A solid casual restaurant from one of NOLA’s most famous chefs. The hot frog’s legs were our favorite bite.
Bourbon O Bar at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel – Our base of operations located at one of the best spots in the French Quarter.
Doreen Ketchens – We saw Doreen performing on the street in the French Quarter two or three times. She is a virtuoso clarinet player, and unbeknownst to the both of us at the time, quite famous. Here she is in a YouTube video from several years back.
Frenchmen Street – One of the great live music scenes around.
Boudin – Hands down our favorite food experience in NOLA. We had boudin, a cajun sausage with a variety of pork and rice inside, whenever we could get it. And we learned of Don’s Specialty Meats so we can even order after we get back home 🙂
Southern Food and Beverage Museum – If the history of Southern food is your thing, then you should definitely pop in.
New Orlean’s Creole Cookery – Where Randy had his fried catfish epiphany.
Commander’s Palace – Where some of NOLA’s notable chefs got their start, including Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse. Always one of my favorite dinners.
Cafe Du Monde – Beignets, my friend. Beignets.
Cemetery Tour (St. Louis #1) – Few better ways to understand NOLA’s unique burial grounds and always comes with a fascinating dose of New Orleans history. Check out Save Our Cemeteries for the good work they do to preserve and restore historic tombs.
