La Croix Water Lawsuit

Here we go again. A lawsuit alleging that La Croix water beverage is full of nasty chemicals, which seems to be not much more than a bit of scaremongering. Here‘s a good breakdown of the science from Popular Science. To show you just how concerned I am about these allegations, I’m cracking open and enjoying a can of Orange La Croix as I type these show notes.

New podcast recommendation
Check out a new podcast from Nicole Schwegman called “BFF with the Chef.” Nicole interviews food bloggers and chefs and they have all sorts of fun food conversations. If that sounds up your alley, then check it out on Apple Podcasts or Nicole’s website.

A tip on cooking gadgets
This tip comes from Bella M. after she listened to a previous Smorgasbord episode (#117) She said she has a ton of cooking and kitchen gadgets, but a great resource she has found for items is her local Salvation Army thrift store. She has found cast iron pans, pyrex dishes and even the occasional high quality chef’s knife or appliance. It’s a great resource for those on a budget. Thanks Bella for the great tip!

Saving time by having someone else do your grocery shopping (sort of)
This comment comes from Kathryn M. after listening to episode #120 on Meal Planning with Leah McGrath R.D.
Kathryn says: Loved the new episode on meal planning!  I wanted to share something that I do that has really helped me. I used to hate to go to the grocery store because I work full time and have 2 young kids and it was a nightmare. Luckily we have gotten online grocery ordering as an option in my town, and that has been a game changer. I make my meal list for the week and then make my order online. All I have to do is drive to the store and they bring my order out to me! Shopping this way I don’t forget anything and I am able to stick to my budget easier.  Most areas have the grocery pick up option now. I can’t say enough good things about it. My meat and produce are always good, and it has saved me so much time. It is seriously a mom’s best friend!

Questions from listeners

I take on a few listener questions in today’s episode, including:

  • What types of food should you (or shouldn’t you) refrigerate?
  • What are some good ways to put up and keep fresh garlic?
  • How do you save time cooking during the week if you get home late each night?
