The Monster Demands a Sandwich

It’s time for another Kitchen Counter Podcast Halloween special! Let me ask you a question: what’s the weirdest sandwich you’ve ever eaten, or even heard of? Yeah? Let me tell you, it’s got nothing on the monstrosities we brought to life for this episode. I think I’m going to bury that diabolical sandwich machine where no one can find it again…

Spoiler alert! I list out all the sammies and ingredients below. You should really listen to the episode up there first!

Ok. So now you’ve listened to the episode and you are thinking to yourself “yeah, I’d like to try some of those!” First of all, I admire your spirit. Second of all, you don’t have to do that. Really. There’s still time to change your mind.

Still undeterred? Ok, here’s a pic with ingredients for each sandwich we tried.

#1 – The Spale Rider

By far the least weird sandwich of the day. A good starter sandwich and it definitely lulled us into a false sense of security.

Ingredients: Spam, kale, ranch dressing on an onion bagel.

#2 – Zombie Brains

So things went off the rails pretty quick. I bring you the “Zombie Brains.”

Ingredients: Vienna sausages, deviled chicken spread, marshmallow creme on a hamburger bun.

#3 – The Witch’s Tooth

This one definitely wins the beauty contest out of the group. But how did the taste hold up? You might be surprised. Or not.

Ingredients: Candy Corn, sauerkraut, sweet relish on a cinnamon swirl bread.

#4 – Frank’s Sloppy Pickle

So you’re craving some sort of spicy Buffalo sandwich but you have absolutely none of the ingredients to make one? Our advice? This isn’t the substitute you are looking for.

Ingredients: Cottage cheese, dill pickels, Frank’s Red Hot on white bread.

#5 The Rotten Submarine

Because sometimes you just crave the taste of dirty gym socks that have been stuck in a chest at the bottom of the sea for 100 years.

Ingredients: Smoked oysters, peanut butter, red onions on a flour tortilla.

The Rotten Submarine

#6 – The No Name Sandwich (a.k.a the Chiquita Nightmare)

We couldn’t even think of a name at the time for this creature.

Ingredients: Bananas, picketed jalapenos, red curry past on sourdough.

The Chiquita Nightmare

#7 – U’Mummy Toes

We are so clever. This sandwich was all about the umami, get it? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha. Ha. Really though that was the only funny thing about it.

Ingredients: Anchovies, Limburger cheese, grape jelly on dark rye.

  • This episode made me laugh so hard! Thank you for including pictures in the show notes. Your descriptions and reactions were hysterical. This is the first Halloween episode I’ve listened to and you guys are great together. I need the go back through the archives and listen to the others. How in the world did you cleanse your palates after each of these concoctions? Still laughing….
